Veterans and descendants formed organizations to remember service, sacrifice, and reconciliation. Groups associated with this era focus on preservation of history, remembrance, and the enduring lessons of unity and equality.

The oldest military support organization in the U.S., the Armed Services YMCA has been serving military families since 1861 through free or low-cost programs and services that address the unique challenges of military service.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, whose objects are Historical, Educational, Benevolent, Memorial and Patriotic. Our Memorial Building to the Women of the Confederacy houses two libraries, museum exhibits and meeting space used for memorial services in support of these objects.

The U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the United States Naval Academy and strengthening the lifelong bond among alumni. The Association and Foundation advance the mission of the Naval Academy by supporting midshipmen, alumni, and the institution through engagement, advocacy, education, and philanthropic support.

To provide an independent forum for examining issues of national defense and maritime affairs.
