The oldest military support organization in the U.S., the Armed Services YMCA has been serving military families since 1861 through free or low-cost programs and services that address the unique challenges of military service.
The Civil War was the defining internal conflict in American history, testing the survival of the Union and ending the institution of slavery. Veterans and descendants formed organizations to remember service, sacrifice, and reconciliation. Our Memorial Building to the Women of the Confederacy houses two libraries, museum exhibits and meeting space used for memorial services in support of these objects.
